TRAVELING STASH BOX #3
Aren't they gorgeous? The bright green goes perfectly with the Christmas fabric I bought last week. This is the second time I have been lucky enough to grab that fabulous Debbie Mumm checked fabric...I love it!
Now onto what I have added back into the box. Click on the photo to see the fabric up close and personal!
Here is what I added. The top left fabric is a yard of Denyse Schmidt's Meadowlark. Right to it is a 1/2 yard of another of the Meadowlark and to the right of it is a 1/2 yard piece of Daisy in Blue and Olive by Kei for Yuwa of Japan.that goes oh so well with the first two! On the left is from top to bottom a gorgeous piece called Bird and Pomegranate by William Morris, two polka dot fat quarters and at the bottom are two mini charms: Boho and Enchanted Pond by Moda. The two pieces on the right are two half yards by Heidi Grace...sure wish I had bought more of those!
Do you want to win this box?(It is all stuffed into a medium flat rate
box) Easy! Just leave a comment on this post and you have a chance! You

Great Fabric Bargains...and I do mean Great!!!!
These two fabrics were not designed together but don't they work well? The top fabric is called "Hoodies Collection Kiss Me" by Timeless Collections. The bottom one is also Timeless Collections and is called Stripes. It is a series of different stitches. I'm not sure what I will do with these but it will definitely be together!
The third piece of fabric is from Riley Blake. It is "Sew Cherry" by Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet. It really feels neat to buy fabric from someone who's blog I read regularly! Kinda' makes it seem like family!
The fourth piece of fabric is this cute little nautical fabric "Ships Ahoy" by Benartex . I have a layer cake of lighthouses that go well with this. It will make a great backing for the lighthouses.
This gorgeous fabric is Katagami by Allentown Museum by Red Rooster. It is navy and white and just absolutely beautiful. It is so soft and luscious!
The last piece is a gorgeous Christmas "Alpine Wonderland" by Sheli McCulley for Riley Blake. It is green and red but I love that it is a modern green and red not the more traditional shades which surprises me since I am really a traditional girl!
So for the amazing cost of $48 I got all of this wonderful fabric. Can you believe it? I just wish I had some more money to spend....you know, you never have enough fabric!

Pin It Blog Hop....My Day!!!
I never thought I would look forward to Friday the 13th but I couldn't wait for it to get here this week!!! Yes, it is my day to show y'all my pincushions. This is another great Hop organized by Madam Samm! Our wonderful Head Cheerleader is Kristen who kept us under control and ready to go!!!!
My first pincushion is my little owl buddy, Hootie! I had so much fun making him...picking the colors and using my stash. I tried my best not to shop for anything for this hop and I kept pretty close to this goal. I did have to buy a few little things but really used things I already had! Are you proud of me? I used crushed walnuts for the filling of most of my pincushions. I bought a large bag at PetSmart and can't believe that I have almost used the whole 7 lbs! Without further ado, here is Hootie!(Click on the photos to see the enlarged version!)
I found this pattern by Jennifer and fell in love with him! He has pockets on the front where you can store scissors, etc. His wing holds needles quite well and yes, I stuck his head with pins...sorry Hootie!
My next project is another favorite of mine...Teddy Bears!!! I couldn't make just one of them since they were so cute. I decided that gingham was a good choice for the fabric. Here they are, my little teddies! The pattern is by Lisa Dopking.
Remember back to the It's For the Birds hop when I made my pincushion with the single red bird among all the white ones? Well, I had some adorable fabric with a single red cat and I had to make a pincushion to go with my cute little birdie!
I made another similar pincushion with some modern fabric that has become my "pincushion" while sewing all the others. I love the bright colors...a little different for me. If you click and make it larger, you can see all the pinholes from all the use!
I have always wanted to make a pincushion/organizer and thought that this would be the time to try it!
I got the pattern from Sew Mama Sew. It was designed by Elizabeth Hartman. I decided I wanted red and black so it would stand out. I even found red, black and white pin heads!!! I love the pockets for little notions and the thread catcher. I am awful about just dropping the threads anywhere...mostly on me so maybe this will help!
While looking around for patterns I came across this "skinny" pincushion! It is wonderful because it sits in front of your sewing machine right where you need it! I had a remnant with polka dots and a co-coordinating leaf pattern that worked just great! I really like this little log.
I then found this great pattern for a block style pincushion. The pattern is by Heather Bailey. Her pincushions were done in bright colors like orange and yellow. I decided that I wanted to use my black "pincushion" fabric. Then I had to find something for the sides and lo and behold, I had this great black polka dot fabric that I got in a Traveling Stash box. Click on the photo to see the teeny tiny polka dots on the sides.
At the last minute, I decided to do another pincushion. I found the pattern a long time ago at DIY network but didn't haveany extra candlestick holders! Well, a trip of "Goodwill" hunting put an end to that problem! So here are my last minute Dress Form Mannequin pincushions. They were so much fun to make and extremely easy! I added raggedy flower pin to each shoulder and they were good to go! Notice I try to match my pin colors to the pincushions.
Now last but not least my really fun pincushions! I could not resist making these coffee cup and tea cup pincushions.I found the pattern on Joann's site. I decided to have a tea party and invite Madame Samm and her competitor...I mean friend, Carol! Of course, Madame Samm gets the coffee cup and since I am a tea drinker, I got the tea cup....so what to do for Carol? Well, I had this sweet fabric with pink cups and saucers on it but what to fill it with? Sorry Carol you got the "warm milk" but you did get the lacy saucer! (And yes, Carol, I had to use a hot glue gun!)I baked cookies for us so I hope y'all enjoy my tea party!!!!
Since you have made it this far, I think you deserve a giveaway! All you need to do is make a comment and you will have a chance to win! Follow my blog and leave a comment to have a second chance. I have three fat quarters of Denyse Schmidt's Meadowlark. I am also including some cute little pins(a must in a pincushion hop), and a wonderful bobbin holder. To go along with these, I will include your choice of one of the black block pincushions(red, lilac or turquoise ribbon). I will be drawing a name randomly on September 17th.
Thank you so much for visiting me and don't forget to visit all the other blogs participating today!

Rostov Treats
After a very long two day flight, the kids are finally in Rostov, Russia. They are looking for a place to live and seeing the sights AND getting over jet lag. They left Las Vegas at 9:30 Saturday night and arrived in Rostov on Tuesday...I think. There were so many time zone changes it was hard to keep track! A really long layover in London that they made good use of and got to see Buckingham Palace, Wellington Arch and Queen Victoria's monument. A quick visit but a great time killer. Then on to Moscow where there was another long layover with no sightseeing so it was really tedious! Finally the last leg to Rostov and sleep! Here is the flights that I followed on Flight Aware.
I got to talk to them on the phone Monday afternoon. Four o'clock my time, Midnight their time. Teddy had slept his "normal" time and was wide awake and ready to go! It will take a while to get over the jet lag!
Here is a picture taken today in Rostov.

Love this photo!
My grandchildren are visiting their other grandparents in Utah and have been fishing with Grandpa quite a bit. Yesterday they hit the jackpot. Maddie reeled the fish in and Teddy netted him. Aren't they cute....BTW, they said the fish tasted great! It is a bass. They had caught a blue gill and were reeling him in when the bass decided he wanted the blue gill for dinner...all he got for his effort was being caught and cooked for dinner!!!!
It all starts next week!!!!!!
Yes, it is almost here! The Pin It Blog Hop is coming soon! Madam Samm and Kristen our head cheerleader have come up with this wonderful hop. Want to see lots of cool pincushions? Well, then just visit these blogs starting September 10th:

Long time, No post!
Since the kids are leaving for Russia for a year, I decided that my daughter-in-law needed a new big purse for the trip. I found Michelle's messenger bag and off I went! I love the pattern and it is so easy to make because her directions are so clear.
Believe it or not, the circles didn't get to me! |
Once I had the bag made, I decided she needed accessories to go with it so again, I went to Michelle's and found this really cute pleated pouch. I saw her adaptation with the strap hook so I copied that!
The red straps match the lining for both bags. |
Key Fob and little clutch |
Put them all together and here is the complete ensemble |
I also made her a mini pleated pouch. Since I didn't have enough of the pink and green striped fabric, I used some cute candy fabric. What better for a little girl?
Everything is finished and now ready to send off on Monday! If you love these bags like I do, you must visit Michelle's Patterns and check out all of her patterns! You won't be sorry when you do!!

TRAVELING STASH Box 4
Yes, I was lucky enough to win another Traveling Stash box from Joy for Grace! Thank you Nancy. The box was packed to the brim with fabric but it was really wrinkled! So I decided to iron everything and tidy it up a bit!(and I really don't enjoy ironing...does anyone?) To see what was in the box click on the link above...I'm lazy and didn't want to take all of those photos when Nancy had done it so well!!!
Here is what I took out. Click to enlarge photos.
There is a one yard piece(the flowered piece second from the left on top) 2 half yard pieces (the dark piece top left and the trees in the middle). All the rest are fat quarters. Don't you just love the greens?
Since the box was a bit on the "dark" side, I chose some lighter colored fabric to add in.
All of these pieces are half yards. There is some Farmsdale...I love those apples! Some Botany by Moda and a piece of OOP Tula Pink Flutterby. I am going to add a few notions but they will be a surprise!
All you have to do to win this Stash is leave a comment on this post. I will draw a winner on Thursday evening May 23.

It's For the Birds!!!! And a Giveaway!!!!!
Finally it is my day for the It's For the Birds Blog Hop! The minute it was announced I knew I had to join in because I had lots of birdie fabric! I decided that I wanted to use fabric in my stash so I looked around for some fun things to make plus I wanted to try some new techniques. So here is what I came up with.
First up were some cute little owls from Toad's Treasures. I had so much fun making these adorable owls. I made the first one but decided that I wanted to move the wings a bit so you can see that my second owl (the orange one has "high flying wings") plus I added a little batting to give the wings some body! Aren't they cute? (Click on photos to enlarge!)
Then I decided that because I missed the mug rug blog hop, I needed to catch up and make some for me! I found The Patchsmith at Craftsy and fell in love with her patterns. I have to tell you she is one of the nicest folks I have met on the internet so check out her blog! I looked around and chose more owls and my other favorite, the penguin! This is the first time I have done applique and I had a ball. It is amazing to see little pieces of fabric become something so cute!
I had so much fun picking out just the right scrap to make each creature come to life! I was amazed that I had the perfect branch in my scraps plus I love how the owls turned out!
Next I found the cutest penguins(can you see a pattern occurring?) at The Purl Bee. The minute I saw them, I knew I had to make my own. Finding the perfect black and white fabric was fun and I actually had to buy some extra...not enough variety in my stash. So without further ado, I would like you to meet my little guys!
I have plans to make more of them and have my own penguin farm. I just love the cute little guys in tuxedos!
After I finished these projects, I decided that my grandchildren really need some new pillowcases. I had some really neat owl fabric(told you there was a pattern appearing!) but had to find some coordinating fabric that was appropriate for both a boy and a girl. I used the fun tube pattern I found at Michigan Star Easy Tube pillowcase. If you have never made a pillowcase in this fashion, you must try! It is quick and easy and your pillowcase turns out so perfect!
Next up in my sewing were some cute little pincushions. I used my favorite bird fabric that I noticed must be a favorite of Kathy from Kwilty Pleasures. I have made a coin purse from it as well, and am down to almost none of the fabric left....insert sad face.I added some lace to make this pincushion special. I also used some cute little rooster fabric for two more pincushions.
I filled my pincushions with crushed walnut shells...and that was an adventure! Everywhere I read to go to a pet store and look in pet bedding for the crushed shells. Well, it took several different pet stores and some questioning looks when I told them I wanted the shells for stuffing pin cushions. They kept telling me it was lizard bedding. No lizards for me! Guess that is what makes life so much fun; different strokes for different folks.
Hope you aren't getting tired of my birdie experience because I have a few more items I made. I had so much fun doing all of this! My next projects were some kindle covers...of course I couldn't just make one...I had to do three(and I only have one kindle but heck, I can change them when I change my mood!)
It was fun looking for just the perfect button for each one. Luckily when Joann's had their buttons on sale for 50% off, I bought 5 little jars of buttons in different colors, each filled with all sizes, shapes and shades. I am set for life with buttons by the way!!!!
Next I tackled clutches! The first one I made was one that I just stitched together as I went along. You will recognize the cute little owls one more time! I decided on a matching key fob. After finishing these, I found a wonderful pattern from Michelle's Patterns (although I don't see it listed anymore)
I thought I was through with clutches when I found yet another owl fabric I had saved for the Birdie hop....this time a really pretty Japanese pattern.
OK. I am almost through. Again I turned to Michelle's patterns for her Reusable grocery bag. This is a really easy pattern to make and you end up with a cute shopping bag. You are being "green" and stylish at the same time.
OK, I am finally finished showing off all of my sewing. Have I forgotten anything????...YES!
Betting my grandkids will love having stuffed owls! |
Note I used the same "night time" fabric for both rug mugs. It was just perfect! |

I had to dress them up since they were standing on snow and needed their scarves to keep them warm. |

I love using the bright green cuff with the contrasting chocolate polka dot trim. Great for a boy or a girl! |

I lined the clutches with the deep chocolate polka dotted fabric that I used on my pillowcases. |
I really love this clutch because I love the fabric! |
I love this chicken fabric and I had the perfect matching blossom fabric for the lining and handles. |
